How to locate a Symbian or Windows Phone mobile device

🔍 Can you still track Symbian or Windows Phone devices?

Even though these operating systems are discontinued, it’s still possible to locate Symbian or Windows Phone devices through native features or third-party tools, if previously configured.

📲 Tracking a Symbian device

Used by brands like Nokia, Sony Ericsson, and Samsung, Symbian had limited tracking options:

  1. 🔹Nokia Ovi Suite (if still accessible)
    • Previously allowed tracking via Ovi Maps and a Nokia Ovi account.
    • If you still have access to the account, you might recover some synced data.
  2. 🔹Third-party apps (if preinstalled)
    • Tools like F-Secure Anti-Theft or Guardian Mobile Security offered SMS or GPS-based tracking.
    • These may still work on legacy devices.
  3. 🔹Using the IMEI number
    • You can always request your carrier to block or try to locate the phone using the IMEI code.

🪟 Tracking a Windows Phone device

Windows Phone offered a native tracking feature called “Find My Phone”, active in versions like WP 8, 8.1, and 10 Mobile.

🔹 Steps:

  1. Go to https://account.microsoft.com/devices
  2. Sign in with the Microsoft account linked to your phone.
  3. Select your device and click on “Find My Phone”.
  4. You’ll be able to:
    • View its location on a map
    • Make it ring
    • Lock or erase it remotely

⚠️ Notes:

  • Tracking must have been previously activated under Settings > Privacy > Location.
  • If the phone is off, it will display the last known location.

🛡️ Final recommendations

  • Keep your access credentials stored securely.
  • If the official services are no longer available, use the IMEI to report and block the device.
  • For security and tracking features, consider switching to a modern smartphone.
